Special Requirements and Information:
Urchin have
received an unfounded fear for those outside of
the reef community. While some spines sting,
they fill a niche in a true reed community. They
are herbivores and will search for algae. They
will move around the tank creating flow changes
in the water column and, as you can see, many
are just beautiful. You will probably need to
feed them even in a well established tank but
once they've acclimated they become an essential
part of the bio-ecology and will reproduce in
captivity. Of course the eggs are a coral and
fish delicacy so you will get few that will make
it to maturity.
