Special Requirements and Information:
Pencil Urchins
differ from many other Urchins because they are
Omnivores and will not only eat algae and
detritus - they may go after new born fish and
coral as well as eggs. Keep this in mind when
bringing one into your Reef Tank.
Like other Urchins, they
will move around the tank creating flow changes
in the water column and, as you can see, can
range from dull coloring to spectacular. You will probably need to
feed them even in a well established tank but
once they've acclimated they become an essential
part of the bio-ecology and may reproduce in
captivity. Of course the eggs are a coral and
fish delicacy so you will get few that will make
it to maturity.
