Special Requirements and Information:
One
of the more interesting of corals, the cactus is
not a true reef coral.
They actually are more prevalent in areas of
reduced activity.
Begin low in the tank until they become
acclimated and then move them closer to the
middle or top. Keep the cactus away from the
bottom of your tank. Sediment infiltration at
the base can kill off a cactus.
Feed at night. Maintain feeding zooplankton and
microalgae throughout the life of the coral.
They feed off the organisms in the water column
and therefore will do better in an established tank
since
they will feed on the live food in the water.
The cactus will send out sweeper tentacles,
however, they do not appear to be used in coral
warfare.
